Trophy match unlikely

Date: Thursday 7th January 2010, by Tynesider

Darsley Park - NUFCIt's expected that Saturday's FA Trophy match with Chippenham Town will be called off at an official pitch inspection tomorrow morning (10am). A referee will slide in from Sunderland to do the honours, meaning that Wrexham next Tuesday (12th Jan) will have to find a new date.

If this weather stays (as expected) and wipes that date out, then the Chippenham match will be pushed back to the following Tuesday (19th Jan). However be aware that the Chippenham Manager is starting to twist on about them having to come up here midweek (we've never heard that one before), with mentions of contacting the FA hopefully it wont end up all change again. Maybe we should twist on about any midweek treks too.

Tuesday saw a Gateshead XI play an indoor friendly against a Newcastle United XI at Newcastle's Darsley Park training ground. The match finished 2-2 with ex-Mags Craig Baxter and Alex Francis hitting netting for us. United Reserve striker Phil Airey drew the hosts level for a second time, with the 'Guidepost speed demon' Jonny Godsmark hitting the first equaliser. Winger/Striker Godsmark could be a player worth looking at in the window, rumoured to be unwanted by United at the end of last-season he spent the first-half of this season out on-loan at Hereford United.
