Daryl Clare signs for Gateshead

Date: Saturday 9th January 2010, by Tynesider

Daryl Clare

Official News has broken that Daryl Clare has signed for Gateshead from Mansfield Town.

Yesturday we reported that the Mansfield Town fans forum had exploded in rage with the rumoured news that Daryl Clare had been released on a free transfer and was expected to sign for us in an 18 month deal.

Update: Clare has signed an 18 month deal on a free transfer from Mansfield. Part of that deal includes a release clause should we be relegated and he cannot face Mansfield when we travel to Field Mill on Saturday February the 6th.

The Jersey born striker (Insert your own witty joke about Bergerac) told the Evening Chronicle:

"I have enjoyed my three months on loan at Gateshead. I am delighted to have made the move permanent and I'm confident we will survive.

"The players are a close-knit bunch, and the team spirit is great which is important when you are scrapping away at the wrong end of the table.

"Hopefully I will continue to score goals and we can climb the table. Ian Bogie's brand of football suits my style and I have enjoyed my time on Tyneside."

Dean Holdsworth's less famous brother was less than happy to be losing Clare and came up with another video masterpiece of awkward body language.

Elsewhere, we understand the progress to bring Jon Shaw and Adam Rundle to the club may be a way off, that's if it's to happen at all with other clubs hovering around both players. The future of Rikki Bains may also be less clear with Darlington having few options at centre-half due to injury and their unwillingness to invoke a new contract offer forced by playing defender Stephen Foster.
