What a difference a year makes, the Conference Premier was only but a whisper on Heed fans lips, with Gateshead riding high in the Conference North table this time last year.
Now the Conference premier brings the big name clubs to the international stadium, but also big time worries as the Tynesider's slipped back into the relegation zone!
Only two weeks are left in the transfer window, fingernails are being bitten down to the bone with only one transfer and a loan having come in. it was expected to be a busy transfer window for the Heed.
Daryl Clare's transfer from Mansfield Town is a major signing for the club after an impressive loan stint, while Rikki Bains loan move from Darlington looks a solid signing.
"One swallow doesn't make a summer" and heed fans know and believe more signings are paramount in our fight for survival. After today's result, the club need to be ruthless in their approach, which may well mean breaking the wage structure but surely that's a risk worth taken rather than the alternative cost of relegation?
Let's hope we see some quality movement soon in the market place!
Here's a man who knows how to survive, maybe he can teach us a trick
