Cavell record under threat?

Date: Sunday 31st January 2010, by Tynesider

Paul CavellJust over one day left of the transfer window (Closes 5pm, Monday) and Gateshead's long standing £9,000 record transfer outlay for striker Paul Cavell may finally be beaten.

Strong rumours coming through from Rushden and Diamonds have us linked with a £20,000 move for their 6' 3" twenty-three year old Hordern born goalkeeper Dale Roberts.

Roberts started his career at Nottingham Forest spending the 2006/07 campaign out on-loan at Conference North side Alfreton Town. The following campaign he became Forrest number 2, before being pushed down the pecking order. He spent the second half of the 07/08 campaign on-loan to Rushden and a large portion of the 08/09 season there too, before recall to Forest. He made the permanent move to Nene Park on January 2nd 2009, signing a contract through to 2011.

Having won two England C caps, Roberts was linked with a loan move to the International Stadium earlier in the season when Nathan Abbey was filling the number 1 shirt, however Diamond's manager Justin Edinburgh prefered to keep the stopper at the club with him eventually ousting Abbey, who's now moved onto Kettering.
