Gateshead have added some Scouce grit to the squad by signing no nonsence attacking midfielder/winger Andy Parkinson.
Parkinson arrives at the International Stadium following his release by Conference rivals Cambridge Utd two weeks ago.
He has a vast experience in the football league, and partnered Michael Owen in the Liverpool youth team. But he made his name down the road at Tranmere Rovers under Liverpool legend John Aldridge.
Andy made 164 appearances for Tranmere scoring 18 goals, he then went on to play for Sheffield Utd, Notts County, Grimsby (with Heed legend Rob Jones) and more recently Cambridge United.
Parkinson also played in the 2000 league cup Final against Martin O'Neil's Leicester City at the time.
Andy was quoted in the local Cambridge press giving his reasons for departing the U’s. His family were moving back up the Liverpool area, so not of a football matter.
He was also quoted as saying in the Cambridge Evening News saying "His time at United had been 'forgettable' after missing much of last season with damaged cruciate knee ligaments and struggling for form this term."
Meanwhile his arrival sees the exit of utility player Darren Williams, the former Sunderland and Bradford player endured an in and out time with the Tynesider's by not following up a good performance with another one, flattering to deceive at times.
Hopefully the Heed Army will witness goals as good as he scored during the League Cup Semi Final match between Bolton Wanderers:
