Sunday didn’t prove to be a day of rest for the Tynesiders as they tore apart Alfreton Town at Gateshead International Stadium.

Alfreton came to Gateshead with one style of play, sadly it wasn’t a good passing game, it was boring long ball. Gladly this suited Gateshead to the ground as they passed the ball with ease around the stagnant Alfreton.

Graeme Armstrong powered the Heed into a 1-0 lead with a thunderbolt of a shot from 20 yards, Gateshead were good value for there 1-0 lead which they carried to Half time.

After the break Paul Musselwhite was judged to have brought down an Alfreton player in the box, the referee pointed to the spot and handed Musselwhite a yellow card.
Pandemonium erupted as the veteran keeper showed his class and saved the poor spot kick, shortly afterwards the Heed ran the show.

The cry’s of “there’s only one Graeme Armstrong” rang out again in the Tyne and Wear stand after the Graeme had went one on one with the Alfreton keeper and came away with the ball and walked it into the back of the net.

Alfreton Town had little answer to the questions the Gateshead attack was asking of their defence, on 85 minutes Michael Rea added Gateshead third and final goal of the game.

Line up and ratings:

Needs to keep his head up, has moments of class followed by a school boy error

Not settling into the Conf north that well, at least no in front of goal, find it very hard to get space on the ball.
