Third go at Chippenham

Tuesday 19th January 2010, by Tynesider

Ian Bogies nephew Greg TindleGateshead have a third crack tonight (7:45pm) at staging our second round FA Trophy tie against Chippenham Town. Having fallen victim to a snowy International Stadium pitch twice already, the Wiltshire based club set off in the early hours this morning to make tonights tie.

After Saturday's disappointing defeat at Forest Green Rovers, Bogie's men must bounce back and restore some confidence before two massive home games against Luton Town (Sat 23rd Jan) and Kettering Town (Tues 26th Jan). Bogie will have to reshuffle the strating XI with Rikki Bains trophy tied (played for Blythe in this years competition), Carl Jones and Chris Swailes cattle trucked. This will likely mean Darren Williams moving to the back and Phil Turnbull returning in the centre of midfield. It's possible Graeme Armstrong may be brought in up top to partner Daryl Clare.

Chippenham Town include Ian Bogies nephew, defender Greg Tindle in their ranks. The Bluebirds have been out of action due to the weather for over a month (bizarrely keeping in shape by doing kickboxing), and with the Towns proximity to Nailsworth (less than an hour) it's highly likely their management were there on Saturday to cast an eye over our defeat.

Reaching the final of the FA Tinpot Flower Vase in 1999/2000, they've subsequently taken the step up the pyramid getting to the second round of the Trophy once before in 03/04.

The winners of tonight's encounter will be away to either Maidenhead United or Barrow in the 3rd round on Saturday 30th January.

Forest Green Rovers 1 Gateshead 0

Sunday 17th January 2010

Pretty football, pretty pointless (again)! All too often this season Gateshead have left an away ground empty handed with the opposition fans remarking on the nice football we play, and how we wont go down playing like that. Unfortunately it's now got to the point where it's starting to drive some of the fans mad.

Isaiah Rankin hit the only goal of the game on 69 minutes as Gateshead lost a crucial relegation battle at the New Lawn only to slip back into the dreaded zone.

Survival instinct needs to kick in

Saturday 16th January 2010, by Heed Army

The book on Survival

What a difference a year makes, the Conference Premier was only but a whisper on Heed fans lips, with Gateshead riding high in the Conference North table this time last year.

Now the Conference premier brings the big name clubs to the international stadium, but also big time worries as the Tynesider's slipped back into the relegation zone!

Only two weeks are left in the transfer window, fingernails are being bitten down to the bone with only one transfer and a loan having come in. it was expected to be a busy transfer window for the Heed.

Daryl Clare's transfer from Mansfield Town is a major signing for the club after an impressive loan stint, while Rikki Bains loan move from Darlington looks a solid signing.

"One swallow doesn't make a summer" and heed fans know and believe more signings are paramount in our fight for survival. After today's result, the club need to be ruthless in their approach, which may well mean breaking the wage structure but surely that's a risk worth taken rather than the alternative cost of relegation?

Let's hope we see some quality movement soon in the market place!

Here's a man who knows how to survive, maybe he can teach us a trick

Rikki Bains signs from Darlington

Friday 15th January 2010, by Tynesider

Rikki Bains

Update: Rikki Bains has officially signed for Gateshead on a 6 month loan deal from Darlington with a view to a permanent deal. Bains will go straight into the squad for tomorrows match at Forest Green, and may even start.

Earlier this morning, we reported that Bains was rumoured to be joining on a 6 month loan:

Rumours emerging from Darlington have Centre Half Rikki Bains joining us on a 6-month loan deal. With Darlington signing Luton's Alan White on-loan, this would in theory free up Bains.

Bains was at Blythe Spartans on-loan before Christmas, where it's said he played well. Going back to Darlington to fight for his place may be about to come to a premature end with White rejoining and Foster possibly sorting out his contract dispute.

Bains was mentioned as a target of Bogies in the Chronicle a couple of weeks back. Having started the season playing out of position at right-back with Darlington, he was moved out on loan by Steve Staunton. Bains comes with prior Conference experience as standout player at Tamworth in 2006/07. Since then, the 21 year old has moved onto Kings Lynn (loan), Corby Town, Macclesfield and Darlington.

The acquisition of Bains would take our Centre Half stock back up to 4 after the release of Stephane Pelonde.

Forest Green Rovers - Away (Update)

Saturday's match at Forest Green is set to go ahead after a mammoth effort to clear the pitch of snow. The pitch is now said to be completely clear, revealing a firm surface. Tomorrow the FGR staff and helpers will concentrate on clearing the snow from the surrounding paths.

Gateshead set off south at midday to stay overnight. With no further pitch inspection expected (at the time of writing) and the weather said to be warmer (with rain) over the weekend, then the only danger could possibly be waterlogging (fingers crossed to avoid that).

Carl Jones could be set to make his first appearance in a Heed shirt since August 25th (York City at Home) with Chris Swailes struggling through injury. Jones after recovering from injury has played in a Reserve team friendly against Darlington and a behind closed doors practice match against a Newcastle United XI. Daryl Clare is set to play for the first time as a permanent signing, where he will be partnered by either Graeme Armstrong or Steven Richardson.

Mansfield land Shaw after we apparently pull the plug

Thursday 14th January 2010, by Tynesider

Mansfield Town have this afternoon confirmed the signing of ex-Heed loanee Jon Shaw on an 18 month contract.

Shaw who spent last month on-loan at Gateshead only featured the once (away at Barrow) due to injury. In that one match he put in an impressive display, linking up well with Daryl Clare and Ian Bogie was keen to sign the player on a permanent deal. However, we believe the club were unwilling to break the wage structure when it emerged that a bidding war between clubs was forming.

Having been injury prone this season and the Gateshead management only getting to see the player pull on a Heed shirt once, the club will have to turn their attention elsewhere. With experienced goal scorers such as Barry Conlon becoming available, then hoefully there will be further movement in the window soon.

UPDATE: Shaw, interviewed on Mansfield Towns website where he alleges that he had agreed a deal with Gateshead that was then withdrawn within 10 hours:

Gateshead play __________ on Saturday

Thursday 14th January 2010, by Tynesider

UPDATE: The FGR pitch has been half cleared of snow, the referee has deemed it playable as long as all the snow is removed in time for kick-off. With warmer temperatures forecast, FGR are calling on their fans to turn up and help remove the rest. Should the game fall victim to the weather, Gateshead are expected to play a local friendly on Saturday, meaning the earlier reports of the Trophy match being moved forward sound highly unlikely.

FGR clear the pitch

FGR draft in fans, players, staff and even prisoners in an effort to clear the pitch.

Earlier we reported:

News filtering through from the Chippenham Town end could see Pythagoras' theorem used to get our Trophy tie brought forward to Saturday. This mainly relies on Forest Green's New Lawn ground failing a pitch inspection this afternoon.

Chippenham, also due to face Leamington in a Zamaretto League match on Saturday could instead make the trip up to Tyneside with club secretary George McCaffery quoted in their local rag saying, "There's a small chance we could get the game played on Saturday. Gateshead are due to travel to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, but if it was to be cancelled, then the FA have agreed that we might be able to stage the Trophy game instead."

If, our game falls victim to the weather (inspection 3pm), then Chippenham have to get Leamington to agree to a postponement. The FA, Conference and Zamaretto League all have to agree to go along too (Good luck on that one).

This all comes from the Chippenham side of things, who appear to be ever desperate to get the match on a Saturday, having unsuccessfully appealed (whinged) to the FA about having to travel to ours midweek only to be told to HTFU by the FA's enforcer Chopper Reed.

Elsewhere, things have been quiet on the transfer front since Dean Holdsworths brother was forced into more awkward body language last week. Plotting his revenge, Mansfield are rumoured to have declared an interest in striker Jon Shaw.

Forest Green Rovers - Away - Saturday 16th January

Tuesday 12th January 2010, by Tynesider

Tomi Ameobi - Forest Green RoversWeather permitting, Gateshead make the long trip (we're even at it now) to Nailsworth on Saturday to face Forest Green Rovers. Nailsworth is a small town in Gloucestershire, with the club originally called Nailsworth & Forest Green before changing their name to Stroud FC and then to Forest Green Rovers in the early 90s.

Forest Green have played at the New Lawn since the beginning of the 2006/07 season, after moving the short distance along the road from their old Lawn Ground. The New Lawn has a capacity of just over 5,000, with it being terraced on two sides (a covered home end terrace, and an uncovered side terrace). The main seated stand runs down one side of the ground holding approximately 2,000 seats (similar in capacity to the main stand at our new ground when built), whilst the away end is a small covered stand holding about 800 to 1,000 seats. At this stage we're unsure if seggregation will be in place. IF we're in the away end then unfortunately that old conference team trick of seating the away end so more can be charged appears to be in operation, with their official website listing ticket prices at £15 seated and £13 standing.

FGR are managed by Sedgefield born David Hockaday in his first managerial job, having taken over from the vastly experienced Jim Harvey. The change appears to have come about after a bust up over rumours that Harvey applied for the then vacant Cambridge job. Hockaday has started to turn around Forest Green's fourtunes after struggling adrift in the relegation zone for a couple of months. FGR now find themselves only 2 points behind the Tynesiders, having won two and drawn one of their last three conference matches.

Boxing day saw a 3-1 home win against Salisbury, with pre-season Heed trialist Tomi Ameobi having said to have netted his first senior goal. Unfortunately for the Geordie striker, it's gone down as an own goal and he's still looking to open his account (let's hope that continues against us). Tomi, the younger brother of Newcastle striker Shola was a player who Ian Bogie repeatedly tried to sign early on this season without any success after the player looked for a full-time deal elsewhere. Forest Green also possess the skillful experienced striker Isaiah Rankin who can be seen netting an impressive goal below:

FGR 3 Salisbury 1 - More FGR Videos...

Forest Green were due to play at Notts County in the FA Cup tonight, but with that match having fallen victim to the weather it's now been rearranged for the following Tuesday. With this in mind their players will arrive at Saturdays game either up to fight for a place in the Notts County line up, or hopefully take a tentative approach trying to stay clear of injury. One thing's for sure it's a massive game for us and with Daryl Clare now back in as a permanent signing, let's hope we can kick on from here starting with three points on Saturday.

NOTE: Saturday's game is very much dependent on the weather, with deep snow expected tonight (Tuesday) in the South West. But with a gang of FGR fans expected to clear the pitch on Thursday and better weather predicted for the back end of the week, then there's a good chance we may actually see some football this calendar year. Keep your eyes on the FGR fans forum for further weather updates.

FAT assed round up

Monday 11th January 2010, by Tynesider

Gateshead will have to try again after Tuesday's FA Trophy 2nd round clash with Chippenham Town was again postponed. The match has been pushed back a week to Tuesday 19th of January, 7:45pm kick-off.

The 3rd round draw has taken place today and should Gateshead see off Chippenham, then we'll be on the road to the winners of Maidenhead United or Barrow (That tie is due to take place tomorrow night). The 3rd round is pencilled in for Saturday 30th January, meaning the match at Eastbourne Borough would need moving. Holker street is no stranger to us with the Tynesiders playing out a 3-3 draw on Boxing day, whilst Maidenhead United (not far from Reading) managed by Peter Griffin have spent most of the last two decades in the Isthmian League and now the Conference South (where they currently sit 16th) so are an unknown quantity.

Elsewhere, Saturdays trip to Tomi Ameobi's Forest Green Rovers is in doubt with the South-West expected to get more snow before the weekend. Before our match they are scheduled to play at Notts County in the FA Cup, so fingers crossed that plays a part in helping us to three points.

Daryl Clare signs for Gateshead

Saturday 9th January 2010, by Tynesider

Daryl Clare

Official News has broken that Daryl Clare has signed for Gateshead from Mansfield Town.

Yesturday we reported that the Mansfield Town fans forum had exploded in rage with the rumoured news that Daryl Clare had been released on a free transfer and was expected to sign for us in an 18 month deal.

Update: Clare has signed an 18 month deal on a free transfer from Mansfield. Part of that deal includes a release clause should we be relegated and he cannot face Mansfield when we travel to Field Mill on Saturday February the 6th.

The Jersey born striker (Insert your own witty joke about Bergerac) told the Evening Chronicle:

"I have enjoyed my three months on loan at Gateshead. I am delighted to have made the move permanent and I'm confident we will survive.

"The players are a close-knit bunch, and the team spirit is great which is important when you are scrapping away at the wrong end of the table.

"Hopefully I will continue to score goals and we can climb the table. Ian Bogie's brand of football suits my style and I have enjoyed my time on Tyneside."

Dean Holdsworth's less famous brother was less than happy to be losing Clare and came up with another video masterpiece of awkward body language.

Elsewhere, we understand the progress to bring Jon Shaw and Adam Rundle to the club may be a way off, that's if it's to happen at all with other clubs hovering around both players. The future of Rikki Bains may also be less clear with Darlington having few options at centre-half due to injury and their unwillingness to invoke a new contract offer forced by playing defender Stephen Foster.

Match OFF - Now, Trophy Tuesday

Friday 8th January 2010, by Tynesider

As expected tomorrow's (Saturday) FA Trophy tie at home to Chippenham Town has been officially called off after a formal pitch inspection.

This match is now on this coming Tuesday (subject to weather conditions), with another pitch inspection taking place before Chippenham travel up. This all means the Wrexham match has been pushed back to March the 23rd.

If the pitch is unplayable this Tuesday, then the match will be pushed back a week until the following Tuesday (19th Jan) although this date maybe up in the air with Gateshead Thunder due to play a training match (whatever that means) against Hull KR then. Whether Thunder's training match is on the main pitch or not is to be determined, but with a kick-off of 7pm then some further fixture juggling may have to take place.

Trophy match unlikely

Thursday 7th January 2010, by Tynesider

Darsley Park - NUFCIt's expected that Saturday's FA Trophy match with Chippenham Town will be called off at an official pitch inspection tomorrow morning (10am). A referee will slide in from Sunderland to do the honours, meaning that Wrexham next Tuesday (12th Jan) will have to find a new date.

If this weather stays (as expected) and wipes that date out, then the Chippenham match will be pushed back to the following Tuesday (19th Jan). However be aware that the Chippenham Manager is starting to twist on about them having to come up here midweek (we've never heard that one before), with mentions of contacting the FA hopefully it wont end up all change again. Maybe we should twist on about any midweek treks too.

Tuesday saw a Gateshead XI play an indoor friendly against a Newcastle United XI at Newcastle's Darsley Park training ground. The match finished 2-2 with ex-Mags Craig Baxter and Alex Francis hitting netting for us. United Reserve striker Phil Airey drew the hosts level for a second time, with the 'Guidepost speed demon' Jonny Godsmark hitting the first equaliser. Winger/Striker Godsmark could be a player worth looking at in the window, rumoured to be unwanted by United at the end of last-season he spent the first-half of this season out on-loan at Hereford United.

Prince Consort Road Stadium

Thursday 7th January 2010, by Tynesider

We started the 'Home of the Heed' site way back in May 2007 in order to document Gateshead FC's progress towards a new Football Stadium. It's certainly felt like a long wait for all Gateshead fans, but boy was it worth waiting for!

On October the 28th 2009, Gateshead FC unveiled the location and proposed design of that new stadium. It was the ultimate location of the three we looked at, that site being North Durham Cricket Ground.

Prince Consort Road Stadium (North Durham Cricket Ground)

Prince Consort Road Stadium

Prince Consort Road Stadium. Latest rendering unveiled this week.

On an early Saturday morning some ten years ago, climbing onto the supporters coach (another long trek south) the bus passed North Durham Cricket Ground. Turning to a fellow supporter I commented: "That would make the perfect location for our club". It was rather a throwaway comment that can be attributed to any supporter who dreams of better for their club, but for it to become a reality (subject to planning permission) is nothing short of miraculous. Especially as it transpires the club have only had to pay £260,000 for the site subject to planning permission being granted, a great bit of business for such a prime location.

Establishing that it's always been the ultimate location to take the club, as fans we really have to take our hats off to Graham Wood and Brian Waites in bringing us tantilisingly close to realising the dream. In this article we'll look at where the stadium build is currently, thanks to a fanstastic indepth article appeared in the Journal Business Section this week.

What was outlined in October?

  • 9,000 capacity, with 2,000 seated main stand. The remaining 7,000 in terracing.
  • Facilities include reception and club offices, dressing rooms, a medical room, press and spectator facilities.
  • Executive suites, boxes and multi-functional space for matchday hospitality and lettable business space.
  • The pitch will be 105 * 68 meters and will be to FIFA standard.
  • On non-matchdays the stadium will be available for exhibitions and conferences, with 600 free parking spaces in the adjacent civic centre.
  • Conversion to all seating would put the capacity at approximately 6,000.
  • 5 minutes walking distance from Gateshead town centre and the main transport interchange (Metro and Bus).
  • Envisaged completion date for the start of the 2011/2012 season.

What's New then?

The major difference you'll notice from the initial design is that the Main Stand has switched sides onto Prince Consort Road. After consultation from the public meeting, Gateshead are getting close to being able to submit a planning application (expected to happen in February, with the hope to secure planning permission in late spring and work starting on the site in June 2010), so the reworked design is likely close to what will be submitted.

Prince Consort Road Stadium - Design evolution

The Evolution of the Stadium Design can be seen above from the initial rendering. Note how the main stand is now the East Stand.

The major thing you'll notice about the new stadium is the number of what appear to be executive boxes behind the main stand. The stand itself has four storeys, with three of those looking out on the pitch through windows. In fact only one of those storeys the windows are executive boxes/lounges (2nd storey), the two above are lettable office space. The club are currently working hard in discussions to secure long term tenants for this office space. With potential leases from 25 to 50 years, and possible income of half a million pounds a year. The primary care trust have been mentioned as one of these possible tenants.

So, the main stand (now on Prince Consort Road) will house all the main facilities rather than being stretched across the two side stands in the initial design. With this stand moving to the east side (lower than the west, due to Gateshead's sloping nature) an extra storey has been added to accomodate this change. Subsequently, the ground and first-floor will be for footballing and leisure activities (social club, community facilities and a club shop). The second and third floors, along with the free-standing buildings (in the corners attached to the two ends of the main stand) will house the lettable space.

Comparing to the Stadium of Light build cost, an estimation of £3.5 million can be made but that will increase depending upon the specification and a more realistic £6million is likely, with the club looking to make use of available grants to offset part of the cost. The stadium will utilise materials from sustainable resources where possible.

What's that on the roof of the main stand, is it grass? Well Gateshead Chairman Graham Wood has kindly said he'll provide the answers to our questions, so keep checking back for that Stadium Q&A article.

Rundle on the radar

Tuesday 5th January 2010, by Tynesider

Yesturday's Chronicle brought confirmation that Rochdale winger Adam Rundle is definately on Gateshead's radar. Luton town are also believed to be interested in the winger, but the lure of moving back to the North East could prove decisive.

We also understand the possiblity of Jon Shaw and Daryl Clare coming back to the Tynesdiders could become reality, with Ian Bogie also eager to add a central midfielder and a couple of defenders to his roster.

Elsewhere, tonight's friendly with Spennymoor Town has been cancelled due to the annoying white stuff that's fallen from the sky. This match was scheduled to be played on Durham City's 3G pitch.

Note: The possibility of Saturday's Trophy match being switched to Durham cannot happen due to FA rules.

Holmes to Heed Home???

Saturday 2nd January 2010, by Heed Army

With the Transfer Window wide open and players moving quicker than UsanBolt Between Clubs, Gateshead FC are still quiet in the race to sign their targets.

Could Peter Holmes be a Possible transfer target for Ian Bogie, Holmes who has played for such clubs Like Rotherham Utd, Luton Town and Lincoln City (On Loan).

According to the PFA website Holmes is listed as a free transfer, currently at relegation threatened Ebbsfleet United. The Bishop Auckland lad may be able to add that experience and bite in the Heeds Midfield.

Footage of Peter Holmes scoring for York last season:

Also scoring in this footage for York is Onome Sodje. Inconsistent Sodje left in the summer on a technicality to join Barnsley, but has since been out on a successful loan spell to Oxford United. If Bogie can't manage to claw Daryl Clare back from a desperate David Holdsworth, then maybe Sodje wouldn't be a bad shout for a loan spell at the Heed. A talented quick skillful striker who can be incosistent but yet could be a perfect foil for Jon Shaw (assuming we can land him).

Bains a possible

Friday 1st January 2010, by Tynesider

Rikki BainsDarlington centre half Rikki Bains has emerged as a possible signing. Believed to be out of contract and unwanted by Steve Staunton, Bains has been out on-loan at slack jawed yocal rivals Blythe Spartans.

Starting the season under Colin Todd at Darlo, Bains fell out of the first team picture after playing in a number of positions unsucessfully. Staunton came in and Rikki was moved out on-loan where he's had a productive spell in the Conference North with some man of the match performances.

It appears a bit of a risk to take by Bogie (assuming he would be the only defensive addition) at a time when we need to get certainties and not possibles (ability wise) in the door for the fight. We've found out to our cost so far the massive chasm that exists between the Conference North and the Conference Premier, with the Premier not being too far in ability from League 2. With that in mind and his failure to shine at the bottom placed League 2 team is he a risk too far? Only time will tell and on his side is a successful season at Tamworth in their previous spell in the Conference Premier. Hopefully we'll have egg on our faces for raising this concern, as the management may see him as a low risk replacement for Pelonde whilst also adding a proven centre half in the window.

Elsewhere the club continue to negotiate over two midfielders and hope to tie up a deal for Jon Shaw by the weekend as Barrow hover. Retaining Daryl Clare is certainly up in the air, with the player said to be keen to come back, but with Mansfield having paid £6,500 in pre-season and the pressure on David Holdsworth (rumoured to have applied for the Notts County job) by the fans to include him in future plans, only time will tell what will happens.

On the fixtures side of things to keep the squad ticking over, a Gateshead XI will play a friendly against Spennymoor Town on Durham City's 3G pitch this coming Tuesday night. So assuming the snow has shifted, try and get along as admission is only £3 Adults and £1 Concessions.

Happy New Year

Friday 1st January 2010

Happy New Year to all Heed fans!

Hopefully the new year will bring us survival on our way back to the heights of the club:

6TH ROUND F.A. CUP - GATESHEAD V. BOLTON

A hectic January

Wednesday 30th December 2009, by Tynesider

With news filtering through that the Wrexham home match has been rearranged for Tuesday the 12th of January, that month is now starting to appear very cluttered.

Already a crucial month with the transfer window, the next two months are shaping up to be make or break and it's becoming apparent that we need to do some quick business at the start of the window before we face crucial matches against Wrexham, Forest Green, Tamworth and Eastbourne. January now looks like this:

Sat 9th Chippenham Town - Home 3pm FA Trophy 2nd Round
Tues 12th Wrexham - Home 7:45pm (Subject to no Trophy replay)
Sat 16th Forest Green Rovers - Away 3pm
Tues 19th Tamworth - Away 7:45pm
Sat 23rd Luton Town - Home 3pm
Tues 26th Kettering Town - Home 7:45pm
Sat 30th Eastbourne Borough - Away 3pm (Subject to no Trophy 3rd round match)
3 OUT - OWT IN?

Tuesday 29th December 2009, by Tynesider

Adam Rundle - RochdaleSo, with the end of the calendar year upon us it also means our loan rangers head back to their clubs before the transfer window opens.

Michael Mackay will go back to Hartlepools having failed to light up the Conference. A quick striker who looks dangerous when put in behind, but unfortunately has the tendancy to over do things losing the ball and to fluff his lines when the goal is begging. However his goals against Chester away and Mansfield at home showed he does have something about him, it's just rarely been brought out in this loan spell.

Jon Shaw goes back to Rochdale after what could be described as an unsuccessful loan because of injury. However his display at Barrow was of an intelligent, dangerous striker at this level. He won nearly every header in the air and held up the ball brilliantly linking what looked like the makings of a cracking partnership with Clare. Barrow certainly seem to want him back, and sound canny confident it'll happen, however on our side is that his family live in Gateshead and South Shields and he has expressed a desire to stay.

Daryl Clare returns to Mansfield with their fans screaming for his inclusion. However Mansfield boss David Holdsworth's body language has looked uncomfortable whenever asked about Clare. Clare has been fantastic in his loan spell hitting nine goals for the club. A short striker who holds up the ball and intelligently brings others in, but most importantly he's deadly in the box. Getting him back for the second half of the season would be a massive bonus.

So what's coming in? The Chronicle has reported that Bogie's after a Football League midfielder, a Conference Midfielder and a defender (along with wanting to keep Shaw and Clare).

Could the Football League midfielder be Rochdale's South Shields born left winger Adam Rundle? Rundle started as a junior at Newcastle United before moving onto Darlington, Carlisle, Dublin City, Mansfield and Rochdale. Twenty-five year old Rundle had a superb season under Keith Hill in 2007/08 scoring at Wembley in the play-off final. However a change in formation and role for Rundle at Rochdale saw his stock fall and until last week was on-loan at Rotherham United.

Daryl Clare back to Mansfield - But is it for good?

Sunday 27th December 2009, by Tynesider

Daryl ClareSo with tomorrow's game being postponed (and a reported loan expiry of 31st December) then the Barra match could possibly be the last we've seen of Clare?

The Mansfield fans sound less than happy with their team currently (after defeat to York yesturday), and were singing Clare's name in a clear signal to David Holdsworth.

Clare has hit the back of the net nine times for the Heed and proved how effective he is in and around the box. For a small man his hold up play is superb and his link up with the other forwards shows his experience at this level. Two goals yesturday have proven his worth to the team and it's crucial that we try and sign him for the second half of the season.

Is it possible though? Well, Mansfield allowing him to become Trophy tied and appearing to cast him aside earlier in the campaign would suggest so. But with them hitting the buffers yesturday and their fans clear displeasure with the reported long ball game they're playing then will it force Holdsworth to think twice. There is also the fact his goalscoring will be alerting other conference clubs to his worth.

One thing's for sure, he's certainly now clearly in the shop window. I just hope Holdsworth's ego wont allow him to admit his mistake and that Clare wants to come back to us.

As many said leaving Barrow yesturday, keep Clare and Shaw and we have a great chance of staying up!

Gateshead v Wrexham - Postponed

Sunday 27th December 2009, by Tynesider

Gateshead v Wrexham has been postponned due to a frozen pitch.

Our next match will now be in just under 2 weeks time at home to Chippenham Town in the FA Trophy.
